Operation Engine-Newity

Overview

The National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center (IPR Center), along with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and other law enforcement agencies, work together to tackle the problem of counterfeit automotive, aerospace, rail, and heavy industry components entering the United States. These fake parts, such as airbags, brake pads, steering rods, and bearings, are not just illegal but extremely dangerous. They can fail during use, potentially causing severe injuries or even disastrous accidents like air crashes or train derailments.

Focus

Operation Engine Newity is the initiative leading this fight. It focuses on educating industry insiders and the public, stopping counterfeit goods at entry points, and going after those who profit from these illegal activities. Thanks to these efforts, about $21.7 million worth of counterfeit items were seized in fiscal year 2021.

Partnerships

A crucial part of Operation Engine Newity is the strong partnership with industry groups. Working closely with organizations like the Automotive Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition (A2C2) and the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA), we gain valuable insights into new trends and emerging threats.
